Procedure:

• After attaining the proper temperature by the previous firing of the reverberatory or crucible furnace the best method is to put the ingots or heavy scrap at the bottom of the furnace. The light scrap should be compressed or baled as far as practicable so that it can be compressed to the bottom of the furnace
• Metal starts melting slowly and steadily. This scrap and ingots should not occupy more than one-third of the volume of the crucible or reverberatory furnace to start
• As the metal starts melting more and more scrap should be slid in (ensuring that it goes to the bottom of the molten metal) from the side door of the reverberatory furnace by opening the lid and using the stirrer for the new scrap additions to go to the bottom of the molten metal
• When the charging is complete to occupy two-third of the furnace addition of more scrap should be stopped and the molten metal temperature should be brought to approximately 800 C
• The required amount of PMC Brons Cover-12 should then be spread over to the surface of the molten metal. Usually, it has been found by us that the quantity of approximately 0.75 kg. to a maximum of 4.0 kg. is added per 100 kgs. of molten. Actual quantity depends upon the contaminants which entered into the melt
• After spreading PMC Brons Cover 12 stirring should be applied to ensure that the particles of contaminants come to the surface as easily as possible. At this time the temperature of the melt should reach the required free molten metal i.e. 900C to a maximum of 100 C, depending upon the composition copper, zinc, tin
• By proper spreading of PMC Brons Cover Flux 12, the melter is assured of avoiding oxidation of the bronze metal in the molten stage. It also enables molten metal to separate away from the contaminants in the baby (globule) form which would otherwise occur it other types of chemicals are used for replacing the same
• Skim off the dross and start pouring the metal at the correct temperature into the casting mold. At this time, it is necessary that meter observes, as far as practicable, the dross should be in the powdery form and not in lumpy form
• The above method ensures good quality bronze castings and cuts down the wastage of cast metal
• The cost-benefit ratio of using PMC Bronze cover 12 is so attractive that no consumer would like to overlook it

Foundry Hydrogen Remover is well-known fact that however carefully aluminum alloys are melted, hydrogen does find a way into the metal during melting. The solubility of this undesired gas increases as the temperature of the molten metal rises. During casting, the solubility drops which results in a sudden release of gas in the form of small bubbles. Because of this solubility difference, the gas may or may not escape from the melt before solidification is completed, causing alloy which in turn creates pin holes or scattered gas porosity in the castings. PMC Degasser-3 is a blue colored tablet, specifically prepared under controlled conditions. It effectively and significantly reduces the hydrogen content in the molten metal at a very minimal level to give a high-quality casting.

How to Use:

• These instructions are given only for Degassing treatment.
• For other fluxing treatment, please refer to the corresponding PMC flux literature
• Preheat the plungers and furnace tools which are suitably coated to avoid iron pick up
• Plunge PMC Degasser-3 tablets, in the recommended quantity, below the surface of the melt. If it is desired, carry-out the degassing operation in two stages using half the recommended quantity in each stage. However, the second stage should be carried out when the bubbling of the first stage completely subsides
• Leave the metal in an undisturbed condition for at least 2-3 minutes under a suitable protective cover of PMC Cover Flux
• Rabble the flux layer into the melt to obtain a glowing red metal free dross
• Skim off the dross and check the metal temperature before pouring
